Many children lack confidence in Numeracy, which has a huge impact on their ability to learn it. Focusing on your own practice and the language you use, you will learn how to assess its impact on children.

  • Discover how to build children’s confidence when teaching Numeracy.
  • You will take away plenty of activities on sorting, number recognition, addition/subtraction and weighing

2. Clap your hands together….

Making music fun

If you lack confidence and creativity in music, this course will provide you with some great activities to enable you to deliver fun music sessions.

  • There will be many opportunities to discuss individual practice.
  • This course is ideal for the non-music specialist.

3. It’s time to get messy….

An introduction to messy art

This course requires you to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty!

  • Experiment with painting, printing, resist work, collage and modelling.
  • Take away a wide range of activities that you can implement immediately.
  • This course will look at everything from planning activities, to mixing paint, organising the children and cleaning up.
  • The course is the perfect introduction to anyone new to Early Years practitioners.

4. The world is a very big place…

An introduction to knowledge and understanding of the world

In this area of the Foundation Stage, children are developing essential skills that help them make sense of the world.

  • Discover lots of practical ideas and activities that you can implement straight away.
  • Learn how to plan sessions and assess development.
  • The course will look at existing practice and will help you build and improve on your skills.
  • There will ample opportunity to share ideas and discuss individual concerns.

5. Back to basics….

Learning through play

Discover how to use play as an effective teaching and learning tool — Well planned play is a key way young children learn with both enjoyment and challenge.

  • Learn how to assess your own skills
  • Take away several techniques to improve and build upon best practice.

This course focuses on the role of the adult in play, how to extend and support spontaneous play, planning for play and assessment. You will have the opportunity to discuss your own setting.

An introduction to outdoor play

Make your job so much easier by mastering outdoor play concepts.

  • Assess your current skills and learn ways to improve on them.
  • Return to work with a range of ideas and activities that you can implement immediately.
  • We will help you plan your outdoor classroom.

7. Once upon a time….

How to read stories to young children

  • Uncover new ways to bring stories alive.
  • Manage your own fears and concerns when reading a story and plan a more effective story time.

For this course, we ask that you bring with you two stories — one that you would like to read to the children and the other that has given you problems in the past.

8. I can write too….

How to develop and support early mark-making in the early years

  • Set up a child’s skills for life.
  • You will be provided with practical ideas to encourage young children to develop their mark-making skills, including identifying emergent writing, interpreting children’s drawings and managing the pressure associated with writing.

To get the most from this course, we ask you to bring a sample of children’s mark-making and a child’s portrait of themselves.

  • Learn the secrets of right vs wrong—an insight into good and bad teaching practice.
  • Assess and polish your own skills.
  • Take away dozens of practical ideas and strategies to nurture young readers.

10. Physical development for the early years….

How to keep kids on their toes

  • Bring your teaching skills alive—discover how easy it is to plan a range of exciting physical development activities that includes every child, all the time.

We ask that you wear appropriate footwear for this course (trainers for example).

11. How do I make friends….?

An introduction to personal, social and emotional development

Learn how to build effective relationships.

  • Understand the crucial importance of creating the right environment.
  • Develop the skills you need to help children cope with different feelings and emotions.

Come away with dozens of practical ideas and activities to implement straightaway in your own class.

To ensure that you get the most from this course, we require you to bring an item that carries an important meaning to you.

12. How to Plan effectively in the Foundation Stage

A step-by-step guide to more effective planning.

  • Save time with shortcuts, tips and little known techniques for smoothing planning
  • Recognise why you should start with the child to ensure that your planning meets individual needs.

You will need to bring with you a sample of your planning to get the most benefit from this course.
