Thoughts of the month
How effective is the Key Person approach implemented?
As a consultant and an inspector there are few key areas I always look for in the key person approach
-
Settings need to ensure that all staff understand the role of the key person
-
Settings ensure there is a comprehnesive system in place to cover when staff are on holiday and off sick
-
Settings ensure that the child is matched to an appropriate key person
-
The key person must ensure the child feels safe and the parents are fully informed.
-
The key person meets the needs of the individual child.
-
The key person must ensure that quality time is spent with each child in the day.
-
The key person represents the individual child in their planning and assessment.
-
The key person plans an environment that meets the needs of their key children.
-
The key person must ensure that any transition within a setting is carried out sensitively.
